Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) is a new type of radiation treatment modality and is considered as an experimental method to treat cancer. Boneca has a clinical research program for brain and head & neck cancers.
All ongoing clinical trials sponsored by Boneca are registered and can be found at www.clinicaltrials.gov (search for BNCT).
Boneca is developing BNCT treatment in close co-operation with Helsinki University Central Hospital and treatments are given jointly by Boneca and the Department of Oncology. BNCT takes place at the BNCT facility operated by Boneca.
An external clinical audit of the radiotherapy procedures used has been carried out during 2005 (requirement of the Council of Europe, directive 97/43/Euratom).
BNCT is available for patients attending ongoing clinical trials or commercially for selected patients as described in "Patient Referral for BNCT". A signed referral by a cancer specialist is required. The eligibility of the patient for BNCT will be assessed by a radiation oncologist with experience on BNCT.
